Dear Christopher Paolini,

I loved the Eragon series, but my favorite was Inheritance. I hope you don’t mind a few comments, questions and ideas.

This book was a fascinating read that twisted and turned, giving you new possibilities and settings at each corner. I enjoyed the diverse races and cultures and the way you described them. You explained the way the dwarves chose a ruler and the complexities that surrounding killing a shade. I enjoyed these bits of information because they helped me understand later events. I truly enjoyed the added detail for it granted me a better understanding of the characters’ feelings, actions and motives. I loved how it was harder to read, with all the descriptive language and how you wove the tapestry.

The most pressing questions I have for you are the ones I have mulled over for quite some time. I would really like to know how you came up with the races that inhabited Alaegaesia. Did someone or something inspire you with the way they acted or reacted? Another question is; how did you create the different dialects spoken by each race? Did you pick random bits of gibberish that sounded good together, or do those “words” have deeper meanings? But the one I want the most answered is; how is Eragon going to live, without going batty, across the world, away from his family? I would love these questions answered thoroughly because they constantly pester me.

The only part of the book I didn’t enjoy was the cliff-hanger ending, where Eragon sets out on an adventure across the world, and he knows he’ll never return. Personally, that leaves you wanting more, but since this is the last book in the series, it leaves you slightly perturbed and it ruins the book. I think it would have been better if you had added an epilogue that was, say, ten to twenty years into the future, from the end of the book. That would have kept me fully satisfied with the series.

Sincerely,
Breeze
